Comparing Grills

When it comes to selecting the perfect grill, the options seem endless. In this guide, we'll explore three top contenders that I believe are ideal for beginners. Remember, these are just my personal recommendations, so be sure to choose what suits your own grilling needs.

Let's take a closer look at three grills/smokers: the Weber Jumbo Joe, the Char-Griller Offset, and the Pit Boss Lexington.

Starting with the Weber Jumbo Joe, it's hands down the most budget-friendly option. With its 22" cooking surface, this grill offers versatility for various cooking styles. It's large enough to handle a brisket yet compact enough to efficiently grill a steak or some delicious flat meat. Personally, I've owned one of these for years and it's my go-to for grilling, although I use it less for smoking.

Next up is the Char-Griller Offset, an excellent entry-level smoker that can double as a grill. This versatile piece of equipment is perfect for smoking ribs, briskets, and pork shoulders, producing mouthwatering smoked meats. While it's a bit pricier than the Weber kettle, if you're looking for more cooking space and superior results, the Char-Griller is worth the investment.

Now, let's talk about the Pellet Smoke Pit Boss Lexington. Priced similarly to the Char-Griller Offset, some may argue that pellet smokers don't quite fit the traditional definition of a grill or smoker. However, with pellet smokers becoming more affordable, they're gaining traction in the grilling world. The convenience of being able to set it and forget it, without the hassle of tending to a fire or waiting for coals to heat up, is a major draw. While I haven't personally cooked on one yet, the feedback suggests that they impart a flavor akin to that of an offset smoker, but with faster cooking times and less wood wastage.

In conclusion, there are numerous pros and cons to consider, and I've only scratched the surface of the wealth of information available on these grills. I recommend watching videos and doing some research to make the best decision for your next grill purchase. If you develop a passion for smoking and grilling, you'll likely find yourself not just owning one, but multiple grills. Trust me, I've been through my fair share, so go ahead, explore, and enjoy the journey of smoking some delicious meats. Cheers!
